Coron in August: Siete Pecados & Dicantuman

In just a couple of days, Baguio will once again be more crowded than ever, (no) thanks to the Panagbenga, or the annual Flower Festival. Fact: more than half of the Baguio population leave the city when the tourists descend. I call it the “displacement method” at work. I will be one of the displaced ones, heading off to beautiful Coron

To further hype me up (as if I’m not already hyped enough!) I’m going to revisit, albeit in pictures, my first visit to Coron. During the month of August. Rainy August.

Siete Pecados

When we arrived at Siete Pecados that morning, the sun was up, but she was pretty somber, so we knew she’d hide herself soon enough. We weren’t wrong.

coron island hopping palawan 01Siete Pecados, according to Argel, was, according to legend (OK, I don’t know who to believe anymore. …kidding.) named after 7 sisters who drowned. After being told by their mother not to swim in the dangerous waters.

….There’s a lesson there somewhere.

Do NOT swim in groups. It’s going to be so tragic.

I kid, I kid.

Anyway, I think “siete pecados” loosely translates to “seven sinners”.

The place was dotted with rock formations, and there was an area cordoned off purposely for snorkeling.

“Seven sisters, I totally feel ya.”

So we had to leave for our next destination.

Dicantuman Beach

It was only 11 am but we headed to Dicantuman Beach, one of the many beaches in the area, for lunch. Everyone, say hi to Argel’s back.

coron island hopping palawan 08As our boatmen whipped out their culinary guns to cook our meal, we just frolicked around.

And by frolicked, I meant really frolicked.

coron island hopping palawan 09If you’re into serious soul-searching, or you simply want to bask in the quiet of your own thoughts, this is the perfect place to do so.

But, if you’re like us, who couldn’t stay quiet even if it killed us, the place will be filled with the sound of your laughter. And hijinks. Lots and lots of hijinks, to which Argel and our boatmen could only watch, smile and shake their heads in amusement.

coron island hopping palawan 10I’ll be wrapping up this look-back series of Coron posts in the next entry, so watch out for it!
