Change is one of the most certain things in life, and that applies to a fangirl’s life as well. Fads whizz by you so fast that, before you can process it, a new one comes along. New artists/performers/celebrities arrive on the scene faster than you can say “who?”, and don’t be surprised if this personality you thought would be around in the limelight for a long time suddenly drops off into oblivion. That’s change. They come and go. It’s a huge bouquet of uncertainties. But if there is one certainty in all this, it is this: once a fangirl, always a fangirl, no matter that the subject or object has changed.
When in Rome, do as the Romans do. From a fangirl’s POV, we could spin that into “when in the land of K-pop, do as a K-pop fan does”. I know of many fans who purposely head over to places such as Cheongdam-dong and Apgujeong-dong to “nonchalantly stroll” past the entertainment agency buildings, hoping for a sighting of this or that idol. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), this was never high on my list of things to do. That does not preclude, however, my perking up when I hear a familiar K-pop tune playing on the street or a poster or a standee of a K-pop artist that I took a particular shine to. What can I say, once a fangirl, always a fangirl.
Taking liberties with this post’s title, which is inspired (or should I say, infires?) by the title of one of my favorite album releases recently, by Bangtan Sonyeondan (aka Bangtan Boys, aka BTS, aka Bulletproof Boy Scouts if we’re going to be literal about it), “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 1”. I think it’s most fitting, since (a) that EP is the BOMB and (b) I am highly anticipating their follow-up, “The Most Beautiful Moment in Life Pt. 2”, which will finally be dropped on November 30. That’s just a couple of days away! And also my belated way of saying belated Happy Birthday to a certain fish-loving space cadet who goes by the name of Ohno Satoshi.
We Like 2 Party. That’s the title of one of the most recent releases of Big Bang, and they proved the truth of that line. Granted, all VIPs (that’s what Big Bang fans are called) are already aware of what a powerhouse these five (or even separately as solo artists) are, but it feels soooo good to personally witness it unfold in front of our eyes. This whole 2+ hours’ concert was one epic party. Read more
I figured we all deserve a time to be spastic or “let loose the inner fangirl in us”, and that is exactly what this post is all about. Clearly, I am still on a high after catching Yonghwa, Jonghyun, Jungshin and Minhyuk in the Manila leg of their CAN’T STOP 2014 live tour at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, heavy rains and flooding and all. Before I completely close on that chapter (well, not completely, since I have a series of posts coming up that are indirectly related to them), let me just post a few more of the snaps I managed to take during the concert, and also share the things that I loved about it. (You can read my mini-con report right here.) Read more
Outside, neighboring towns and cities are submerged in a flood. Typhoon Mario is making his presence felt in a not-at-all-subtle manner. All the way in Hawaii, Arashi Blast is happening (which is verrrry fitting). Inside the SMART Araneta Coliseum, the show went on. Which is a good thing, because I braved the foul weather to travel all the way from Baguio to catch this concert that I have been looking forward to in months. Thank you, CNBLUE and the organizers for not letting Typhoon Mario stop “CAN’T STOP” from happening!
