Wrapping Up Camiguin: Why You Should Visit (…and where to eat)

As I was going through my Camiguin blog series, a lot of thoughts were running through my head, and one of the most persistent was the idea of whether I could ever really come back. Because I know I (well, we) kinda resolved to climb Mt. Hibok-Hibok “next time”. But you know how Pinoys are (or humans, in general) when it comes to “next time”. Will I ever get to climb it, or will she be one of those “that got away”?

August 2017 FoodVentures: Sweet Stop, Ze Creamery, RnB Cafe, and a certain baby shower…

First things first. HAPPY 108th BIRTHDAY, BAGUIO!!!! Why did you have to be soooo rainy, tho? Ok. Let’s get down to business. If I’m going to be completely technical about it, my August FoodVentures would be much much longer, considering how I was in South Korea for the last week of the month. But those foodventures deserve their own post, which is why I’m just going to be adding here the few ones I’ve had during the first couple of weeks. FoodVentures: Foodtrippin’ in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Guys, I’m… pretty sure I’ve come to the end of my Vietnam travel post series. <insert wistful sigh here> It was a relatively short trip, but I think we did a good job of packing as much as we can into those few short days, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh, without killing ourselves. And what better way to end it than with FOOD? Believe it or not, my first gastronomic encounter with Burger King was in heated Saigon.  Continue reading “FoodVentures: Foodtrippin’ in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam”

June 2017 FoodVentures: Ling Nam, BrrrGrrr, Canto, Sage

“Where to eat in Baguio?” is a question oft asked that, in hindsight, makes me want to scoff a bit. Several years ago that question would have made me pause and think hard for a while, because there aren’t too many options. At present, however, that question would still make me pause, but for an entirely different reason: it’s because there are simply too many options, you’d have to weigh them and choose a real good one. Funny, too, because at every turn, you’d find a place to eat.

May 2017 FoodVentures: Balbacua, Vizco’s, Cafe Veniz, Amare, Yasuragi

Dining out was never really my thing, but I suppose being adventurous about food comes with age, at least in my case. And it helps that I am surrounded by people who are willing to try new things and new places. And it helps that there seems to be no shortage of places to eat in Baguio City and La Trinidad. So here are my May 2017 foodventures.

April 2017 FoodVentures: Il Padrino, Meow Meow Cafe, Lemon & Olives, Sage

If I were to be serious about blogging about food, I’d definitely suck at it. I’m too un-picky about food, and am easily satisfied so being a food critique is out. Also, I’m not really the type to eat out often, or venture somewhere out of the way to check out a new place to eat, at least not on my own or purposefully so. Still, as I was going through image folders and cleaning up files I stumbled upon some photos that I thought I should add on my blog, you know, for future reference.

Foodventures: Foodtrippin’ in Hanoi, Vietnam

My original impression of Vietnamese food consisted mainly of spring rolls and pho. Aside from udon, I’ve always had a lukewarm response to anything noodles or pancit, which explained my lack of interest in trying out pho. But when I was in Vietnam, and I got the chance to have a taste of authentic Vietnamese food, I had no hesitations whatsoever. And what do you know, I actually ended up appreciating Vietnamese food more than I expected.

FoodVentures: Trying The Sili Ice Cream (feat. 1st Colonial of Legazpi, Albay)

If there is one food or snack that is often readily associated with summer (and summer heat, to be more specific), it’s probably ice cream. But if you’re tired of the usual flavors and they all just seem, well, vanilla to you, then it’s time to look for something different. Something with a zing, perhaps? Something like the chill and spiciness of the Sili Ice Cream, right where its home is in Legazpi City, Albay.

La Trinidad Eats: Half Cup Cafe and Gasats RestoCafe and Bakery

I was going through my phone and was amazed at how 98% of all the photos I took with it were of food. (I know the reason for that. I haven’t gone out exploring much during the past 3 months, except for eating ‘out’, which explains the kind of ‘variety’ on my phone’s Camera Roll.) So I figured why not blog about these ‘foodventures’? For this round of #foodiefriday, it’s about Half Cup and Gasats RestoCafe and Bakery.

odysSTAY: In Halong Bay… with Vega Travel

If you’ve been reading my blog posts – sporadic though they are lately – you’d already know how I love the mountains. Or how I love to be on land, in general. Oh sure, I also love spending time in various bodies of water, but at the end of the day, I always head back to land, where I can stand and feel the strong, solid earth beneath the soles of my feet. But last year I discovered that staying on the water for longer than 12 hours can also satisfy me… as long as I’m on a boat that, even for a day, can pass for a home. Vega Travel Vietnam made that happen.
